Do you have a book you’ve wanted to write? Does the task seem daunting, there just isn’t enough time? If the answer is yes, or even maybe, come to the meet-and-greet on Monday, November 12 for the University of King’s College MFA in Creative Nonfiction. I’m part of the faculty of this 2-year program focused on producing a book. (Our students have worked on everything from memoirs to investigations to business books.) At this point, six years since the program was launched, quite a few have been published, with more on the way.

As a low-residency program, students (the average age is mid-to-late 30s) come to an intense, 2-week summer residency in Halifax, and an intense 1-week residency in January in either Toronto or New York (in alternating years). This allows people to work on their books in their hometown, submitting material to their mentor-advisors at agreed-upon deadlines. It also means continue working (whether full-time, or having negotiated a leave for part of the time, or made arrangements to work reduced hours, etc).
